Anthony McCall, Line Describing a Cone, 2017

As seen during the Dreamlands exhibition at the Whitney Museum, New York, in January 2017. The light used in this context takes on a 3 dimensional or sculptural quality. A simple circle projected through darkness and mist (originally the artist used cigarette smoke), the light then appears to transform into a hollow cone that seems to occupy space like a solid object.

"McCall’s combination of volume and temporality fuses the properties of film, sculpture, performance, and conceptual art, creating a spatial analogue for the experience of time." Whitney Museum of American Art
